This is Rico, my pride and joy. He is 5 now and he is the top guardian of my goats. He has kept the mountain lion, coyotes and packs of stray dogs from killing my livestock. He is very friendly with family and children, but suspicious and wary of strangers.

The Portuguese use them as police dogs. It is also an ideal family pet because of its alertness, loyalty, intelligence, and it’s instinct to nurture young; all features it needed in its earliest days.
