What a picture!!! I don't know what the name of the white foreground plants are but they really help set the scene!! It is so great to have this beauty brought into my home as I don't do much walking and getting out now. A beautiful little red eft and is that a salamander like the ones I used to try to catch in our creek? It made a truly eye-catching picture. Thanks for the treat.

Great photo Don of a really unusual critter. Thanks for sharing, I have never seen of of those. I thought it was a photo of a rubber toy lizard. LOL..

Thanks all for the nice comments! They are strange looking creatures. Alandra, they are actually a land stage Newt and are the same critter as I understand it. In the spring they are plentiful here if you know where to look and are out and about after spring rains. They range in color brightness. I picked this one to shoot because he was the brightest I'd seen that day and had killer spots. Thanks again all, Don

late with these comments, but in agreement with all the others, wonderful capture, Don. I also like the look of "gold" around the eyes. Have never heard of an Eft. We used to have "newts" as kids in England, but this looks more as if it lives on land, more like a salamander? We did have a salamander here on our front patio some years ago, and I took it up to the woods nearby, before our cats got it. its texture reminds me of one of those "gummy erasers" or "gummy candies" lol

WOW!! what a great shot,I've never seen one that color but I guess he's not your ordinary lizard.lol He's kinda pretty for a critter that eats bugs.

Great capture Don! I've never seen one of these creatures either. It's such a beautiful bright color.

Wow, what fantastic colours. I didn't know these creatures came in such brilliant colours. Have only seen dull brown/black ones myself.
