Thanks Alovely. Yes, there are birds which nest in the cacti. One type of bird is the cactus wren. They are a little larger than a sparrow.

What a great composition. It is very pretty and I'm enjoying the colors of the desert. I have never seen a cactus in my life, accept in photos. I understand they have birds that nest in them???

Thanks Bubbalinn. I hope you have been catching some of this rain we've been having lately. We're hoping for a green spring this year. That would be so nice!

I missed answering these comments somehow.

Jim: I took the shot in mid-morning. We were heading up into the mountains for a day hike.

Solaria: Did you make it here yet? This is the time of year to be here.

Great shot Garry. Deserts sure can be green in spring. I like the lighting, what time of day did you take this shot?

Very nice image! Good composition too. I was in the AZ in August 2004 and never captured any good landscapes like this.

Thanks, Mary. Flat is just about the opposite of Arizona. Think Grand Canyon. Altitudes here range from below 1000 feet to over 10,000 feet. There are five climate zones, ranging from sub-alpine to tropical desert. I don't believe that there is even one spot in Arizona from which a mountain is not visible somewhere. There are some very flat spots, but most are surrounded by mountains.

Beautiful landscape/desertscape Gary. I pictured it as being all flat. I do have a brother that lives in Sun City West but have never been there.

blue iris, thanks. I see that you live in Maine, a state I have never been in. I have come to appreciate the beauty of your state from all the wonderful photos here in The Lens Flare.

I love this, and all of your other desert shots.

Thanks folks. The mountain is the west face of the Superstition range. It is visible from our house, 50 miles away. Nature had a hand in the beauty out here this year. We had so much rain it turned the entire desert green. This is not the way it usually looks. In a few more weeks it will be brown and HOT! Right now, though, it is a beautiful hike.

This is nice. I like the hint of the large mountain just on the edge of the photo. Flowers and green added some pretty color.
