Sand Dunes and Cloudscape

The Atlantic can be seen through this slender path over the sand dune with tall Sea Oats valiantly helping to protect the elements from blowing away the tenuous sand barrier between shore and land on North Carolina's Outer Banks.

Thank you for such a lovely compliment, Tania. I recently heard that they're undergoing some major erosion on the Outer Banks. They are a very narrow band of islands. Vicki

Hello again, May - umm - this IS the end of the path . . . if you look closely at the photo you'll see what's on the other side - the Atlantic Ocean!

This is a beautiful shot. It taunts me to jump in and follow the path.

Thank you for your comments, Carol, Karen, Randy and Lulu - I was drawn to the beach that day due to all the kite boarders - but the Sea Oats really grabbed my brain when I saw them against the wonderful cloud formations. I'm glad you enjoyed them too.

Vicki, I love thiis. It reminds me of our beaches here. I could see this one hanging on a wall. Especially with the framing that ties in with it so well.

It's almost time to move on - this summer has sure gone fast. Thank you for the kind comments, Alandra and Les - and Mary, The Christmas Island Gallery is closing this year after all those years in business. The owners are retiring and decided to close rather than sell their delightful store. I took these late in the afternoon - the clouds were gorgeous - the sea oats are fluffier today, but I doubt I'll have a chance to nab them again with my camera before we leave the Outer Banks this weekend.
