Beautifully taken and beautiful subject, the lip color didn't stand out so much to me or off putting as she looks happy and pretty and that is a very nice portrait I'm sure she will look back on with pleasure as Shayna gets older,an inquisitive look you have captured,

regards Vince.

Hi Grumpy,

Thank you for your kind comments. I did look at your photo and it was very nicely done. The difference is this photo was taken under very controlled conditions. This was taken in a photo studio, with four studio lights (main, fill, hair and background)in front of a photo gray velour background. The key to good portraits is being able to accurrately control the lighting. An on camera flash won't give you that kind of control.

Best Wishes, Doug

have also read about that lens, Doug and Don. You can see the quality results in that image of Shayna, and agree about the L series. Know what you mean about "usually it's the one you left behind", :) as even with my 2 L lenses, - quite often I only just change to the wide angle one, and then wish I'd left the long lens on camera :)

it's strange about people wanting their little girls to be like "little women" at such an early age, - they grow up fast enough as it is :)

Hi Don, While they say it's a poor craftsman who blames his tools, the "L" series lenses are certainly the way to go if you can afford them. You do tend to get what you pay for. Thanks for commenting.

Very nice portrait Doug, she is a cutie pie. Beautiful shot. Interesting about the 70-200 f2.8, I've read a lot of good reviews on it for sure. I can see why you like it so much. It is on my wish list along with several other L series lens :-). Don

Hi Talsi and Alandra,

Thank you for commenting. Alandra, Yes she is wearing lip color, applied by her mother. It does seem a bit out of place for her age doesn't it? Wasn't my idea. One of the problems I have is lugging around all the lenses, and other equipment, I have now. Unless you have something specific in mind, you never know exactly which one you'll need. Usually it's the one you left behind.

a beautiful little girl Shayna is and it's a lovely portrait of her. Am interested in the lens also, so thanks for the info. There's a new Canon lens coming out in November that I want to check also(infact there are 2 new lenses coming, but am only interested in one of them). Is she wearing lip colour? or did you add that after. My thought is that I'd like to see a child with the more natural look, rather than "made up" at that age, tho'.

A terrific portrait and nice expression on the child.

Hi Mary,

Nearly all of our simple studio portraits are done with the Canon 70-200mm, f2.8L lens. It's kind of our bread and butter lens and we have two of them.
