Incline Section

Taken at Robert Crown State Beach in Alameda, California. In the distance is the Incline Section of the San Mateo Bridge. The bridge is about 12 miles in the distance as it spans San Francisco Bay.

The bridge is several miles long and for the most part is just above the water. The lower sections but cannot be seen from this location due to the curvature of the earth. The Incline Section rises into the air, so boats can go under. Every afternoon when it is clear, as the sun gets low in the sky, the bridge appears to glow as it does here. The lower points at the ends of the span are actually reflections off the water.
