We used to go berrying when I was a kid, too! We lived in rural New Jersey, on 35 acres, and there were berry bushes WAY out back. We'd pick black and red raspberries and currents and my Mom would make preserves (with the ones she managed to keep us from eating on the spot!!)

they grow wild in abundance in this region. Always brings back happy memories of byegone days as kids in England, when we went blackberrying with maternal grandma, and would come home scratched to bits, purple fingers and lips : ) ripped clothes, but so happy after hours in the sunshine picking those blackberries. Then would appear the wonderful blackberry & apple (mixed) deep dish pies, jam of the same blend, that grandma would make. nothing like it.

I love blackberries. These make me hungry. Dewberries, similar to blackberries, grow wild in south Louisiana in April and May. My wife and my mother both make great dewberry cobbler.
