Black Vultures

Black Vultures

I drove around the curve (if you look carefully, you will a bridge in the background; I live one short block away) and came across all these black vultures on a partly submerged deer carcass. They are very cagey birds and have a finite measure of safety. So I hid behind a telephone relay box, then started crossing the road, shooting as I went. Some became too wary to stay and flew to the tree - you can see some on the wing, but four stayed until the very last second. The carcass was picked clean. I guess they were digesting. Quite a flock of them. More than I've ever seen together, except for documentaries in Africa.

Cool shot May, neat to see that many together. I've heard those Black Turkey Vultures are more aggressive than the common Turkey Vultures we have up North. They are a bit smaller, but I've heard they can take down small prey even young calves. Don
