Ruby Macro

A close-up of a male Ruby throated hummingbird. Well, I finally got a decent head shot on a male hummer and just my luck. One out of a million chance, this one needed a shave. Thanks for viewing, Don

Thank you all very much for the words of encouragement. Yes, I'm hooked on hummers Alandra, they are beautiful birds and so tiny. I'll have to try that unsharp mask Silverdeb, it's fun to experiment with these photos. Mary, that little tuft was driving me nuts, I just wanted to pluck it for him. That is what I meant by him needing a shave :-). Thanks again all, Don

Wonderful color and detail. Like the little fluffy tuft of white feathers on the neck under the beak.

This one really stands out. The background blends well with spot on depth of field to get the eye and neck in focus, with the beak leading the way out to soft focus. The yellow flowers at left give a nice balance that doesn't compete with your main subject. A gentle touch of unsharp mask around the eye (selected on its own) would give it a piercing dramatic extra touch, if you wanted to experiment further.

good for you, Don! That's a great shot of the hummer! Beautiful iridescence on the feathers. Now you'll be "hooked" like the rest of us "hummer photographers", lol.
