I'll Fly Away

Another from the Venice Rookery. We were at one of the Great American Photography Workshots where we focused on the birds of Ding Darling NWR (disappointing), Corkscrew Audubon Conservatory and the Venice Rookery. Its kind of hard to not walk away from there with a few wall hangers. This one is the main shot on my web site, www.borrowed-images.com

Oh, please wait a minute and I will fly away with you!! How beautiful, and a revealing picture too, as it shows that the inner side of the leg is dark all the way up to where it joins the body. The outer side though is only white to a little above joint. What a great picture as it also shows another treasure - the green marking above the beak. A wonderful picture!!

I have had several questions about the beautiful green marking. The two things that sets the Great Egreat off at breeding season is the green marking and beautiful plumage, both used to attract a mate.

This is breath-taking! Congratulations, and thank you for sharing it with us. Austin and Alandra's comments made me wonder about that green marking above the bill - is it part of the breeding coloring?

Beautiful shot!

Great Egrets are so much prettier in their breeding plumage aren't they?

wanted to add, this is the first I'd realized there is green marking near the beak of these birds.

well, that answers my question, as it does seem as if you have both the D70 and 20D. Which do you prefer? That is certainly a stunning shot, wonderful.

Wow, you captured its grace and beauty perfectly. I'm still having trouble with the slow shutter speed on the digital camera. Hard to catch the action shot.

Wow, that shot is simply amazing. It looks more like a painting than a photo of a bird.
