Bald Eagle - huge wingspan

Bald Eagle flying free in our area, at the Great Blue heron nesting area. Bald eagles are also nesting there, we saw 2 eagles sitting on nests at the same place last evening.

This gives you an idea of the magnificent wingspan.

That's okay Alandra. Mel and her sister (or siter as I wrote earlier) are my cousins, and as you probably already know, Lulu is my sister. They are all coming around tomorrow night for dinner. Should be fun. I'm off to comment on some of your other gorgeous pics.

oops, sorry Shirree, I knew it was you that had written the notes, don't know why I wrote "Mel", as had gone back to the start to read the earlier comments also. Guess I had inmind about Mel's sister giving you the painting she'd done, and typed Mel by mistake. (losing it, LOL)

good to see your notes, Mel, enjoyed them. Yes, I have seen Silverdebster's Pukeko photo, sometime ago, will have to check Vincent's also. The painting you were given sounds great. I hope you will get your Pukeko shot too tho', am sure you will.

oh - Vincent has one to - called 'swamp hen'. Sorry to take over here, but I think everyone should love Pukeko as much as I do! Shame I couldn't get my photo, but Thoreye's (Mel)siter painted a gorgeous picture of one and gave it to me for my birthday - LUCKY ME!!!!!!!!!!

I just remembered, Silverdebster has a pukeko in her gallery if you want to see one. They are beaufil birds - like your eagles (though your eagle would probably eat the pukeko for breakfast).

Yes, I hope I can come and see them for myself as well!!!!! I know what you mean about it being a challenge trying to photograph them. About a year ago I was so determined to get a photo of a Pukeko (a native NZ swamp bird - not much of a flier, but quite shy). We have alot of them about 2kms up the road from where I live. I never did get a decent photo. Quite disappointed I gave up(for now). Maybe you could take one when you come over to see our beautiful country ;-)

Hi Shirree, thanks very much for the nice praise. I really hope to get some clearer shots soon of these awesome eagles, they are in our area all the time, but they move sooo fast that it's a challenge : ) and are usually quite high up or far distant. I hope you can come over sometime to see these for yourself. And that we can come over to see your lovely country's beauty. My cousin and wife just called in here enroute from a long stay in NZ (since January) - they live in England, and they loved NZ.

Breathtaking! Great shot of the fully extended wings Alandra. Wish I could see it in person!

thanks Alex for the encouragement. I wanted mainly to show the awesome wingspan, for those who might not realize what it's like, - it is almost breathtaking when they fly nearby or overhead.
