Two views of Great Blue Herons

The Great Blue Heron with the turtles was taken at our campground in Alva, Florida, while the one on the right was taken at Salt Springs, Florida last year about the same time. The bird on the right is in full breeding plumage looking for a mate, while the one on the left is in it's more year-round plumage. I was unaware the beautiful birds colors and feathers changed so dramatically during breeding season.

Thank you, Anne. That's one of my favorite heron pictures too, with the rocks and turtles. This one was created for dear friends who finally had to give up full-time RVing due to health. Vicki

Simply loved this picture postcard! What a gorgeous Heron in full courting attire. *g* But the turtles on a rock and the lovely reflection of the Heron made that scene just as beautiful. Great picture.

Thank you both. I've been offline longer than expected and missed seeing many great works on TLF.

The herons are amazing - there are a few around my daughter's, here in SW Michigan, and we saw several along the Outer Banks last summer. The one on the right was a wonderful study, near Ocala, Florida, but the one on the left intrigued me as I learned more about the numerous birds we saw while near Ft Myers, Florida last winter.

I'm glad you enjoyed my framing experiment, Whittler. It's fun to try out new ideas when I can't get online!

Very beautiful!! I love the herons. But have to travel a few miles to get to see one. However seeing them is its own reward. Love your work and how you arranged the herons.

Hi Alandra - yup - I figured that one out!

Hi Vicki, that was supposed to be "doing the Fandango", excuse the typo : ) you probably knew what I meant.

I'm glad you enjoyed this one, Alandra. This fellow was in his prime breeding plumage - but was the only one I saw at that location, where the one with the turtles was in a major heronry area where several types of heron and egret nested in massive clusters on a small island beside our campground. Their primary enemies were alligators and other birds of their own species who are known to tip eggs out of nests to take over with their own nests. Talk about noisy at times!

another lovely pair of photos, especially attracted to the GB heron who is "performing the Fandago" : ) wonderful capture.

Thank you, Doug. I printed this one out and was quite pleased with it. The consistent ovals were originally created as suncatchers (the light houses too), but friends asked me for one of my heron photos and I found the beautiful one from last year which had slipped by me (there is another view of the same bird with the background lightened up in my Gallery that I submitted shortly after I took it).
