Unidentified Building near Gretna, Nebraska

Walking along the Platte River near a fish hatchery south of Gretna, Nebraska last year I came upon this unusual building. There was no way to identify its purpose, but I thought it rather interesting.

Wow! That is really some picture. The door looks as if it is attached to a wired in plate right above it. *g* I wonder how old it is? I wish I could have seen it in person and touched it but I don't think I would like to go in. Maybe it is someone's dream house. But no curtains. Hmm. Very interesting!!!

Interesting guesses, Brian and Alandra - but neither is probable. If I get out that way again I may have to go way up the hill to the main house and ask!

have only just seen this one, so am echoing everyone elses' comments.

fascinating and gives pause for thought. maybe it was built for youngsters to play in, during summertimes

Maybe it's an outhouse from a bygone era?

It's too out in the open to be either of those. I was nosey enough to try to peek in the window, but it was too dark inside to see anything. It's cleverly created - a fish-cleaning shack or kids' bus stop shelter came tomind too - but I also doubt either of those to to the location on the property. The main house is way above this on a long, hilly driveway.

I would like to know too, I was thinking a bomb shelter or place to store ammunition but if that was the case it would have steel doors and no window, did you peek in the window? Very, very interesting.

Thank you, Carol. Just wish I knew what it was designed for!

Thanks everyone - Karen - you may have a point there! Gary - did you see this too - slightly off the road? You go due south past the Flying J at the Gretna exit, to the river past the fish hatchery and turn left at the river. It's just down from there on the left with a huge "No Trespassing" sign.

This was obviously built by an Eskimo with a bad sense of direction! lol!

Neat structure. I've been through that area. It actually is very interesting along that river.
