Gator Joe's

This restaurant is a local favorite inOcklawaha, Florida. Their key Lime pie was sinfully delicious - but I opted against trying actual gator tail!

Hi Chris and Ross. Chris, they do indeed have a full-service bar - the place has a great attitude and is very relaxed. Moving to the Ocala area? Be careful driving through all those forest fires! Vicki

Great Pic of the greatest little place I have ever been. The food was great, the drinks even better and the staff is super. I will always remember this stop and if I go back to Florida, I will visit this place again.

Thanks for the input J. I'm amazed by the number of posts from Gator Joe visitors here! And I agree - I saw it at night for the first time - that was neat too!

I live about 2 blocks away on Lake Weir,If you ever get a chance to go to joes, go, you will never forget it. The pic is sweet, but the first person view is much better.

Hi Betty - congrats on the Gators great win! Mike's daughter lives down the road from you in Newberry!

Mike says take I-75 to SR 40 in Ocala. Go east on 40, about 15 miles to 314A (look for the Winn-Dixie- turn right to 465C (about 8 miles) Turn right, through the red light at 25 and it's straight ahead. Enjoy

I'm sorry I wasn't back sooner for the new comments. I love it when people have been to places I've captured in photos. Creig - it sounds like you worked there. Too cool.

My dad took me to dinner when we visited in August because he thought that I would like it. He was right. We had a great time, the food was good and the band was rocking. I loved it.

I live about ten miles from Gator Joe's. I fact I had the Grouper sandwich last week. I highly recommend it. The folks there are nice, the beer is cold and there are great sayings written on the rafters in the ceiling to provide entertainment while you wait for your order of Gator bites.

Thank you Frank for your kind words - I've been on the road and away from TLF for so long lately that it's like welcoming an old friend trying to catch up with the new images. There are some incredible additions here

Isn't this odd that way, for being INLAND! And I'll confess - you have too be in the Keys for the REAL Key Lime Pie! Glad you liked it, May.

I just wish I knew the trick. I love to eat but I grew up with four sisters. They learned how to cook.

Thank you for the information, Dud.I'm glad you commented that there is indeed a trick to fixing it properly.

I have eaten gator before and yes the description is accurate if not cooked by a good chef. Many in Louisiana know how to cook it and it is great.

Thank you - someone told me gator tail tastes a lot like chewy chicken - but it still doesn't look appetizing! Let us know when you find out!

Alligator is delicious. I have eaten it. I was drawn to your picture because of the beach and am glad I was. It is a great picture.

Thank you Alandra and Jim - it does look like a surfer place, doesn't it. Actually, I omitted a teeny detail - Ocklawaha is in the middle of Florida - and this restaurant is on Lake Weir (you can see the far shore - it is a large lake) Surfing was only a thought during the hurricanes that ravaged the area last year. I took this on a Monday, the only day they are closed, and the beach had already been groomed. And the Key Lime pie WAS wonderful, Alandra - yum!

Great shot Vicki. This place looks as if it would make a great set for one of those tropical movies.

fascinating scene, Vicki, - so totally different to anything we see here, and interesting too. I'd have passed on the alligator tail too, but the key lime pie sounds deelish, something I've never tried. The colouring in this shot just "goes with it". really nice, feels like you're right there.
