Nice capture of this memorable ship Chriss. The Queen Mary has such an interesting history. One of the largest passenger liners ever built, the Queen Mary made over 1,000 crossings. During World War II, it was given the name, "Grey Ghost" when it was camouflage painted, its portholes blacked out and it began military transport. Servicing the war effort, it traveled more than 600,000 miles and carried over 800,000 troops. One historic journey to New York in May of 1943 included passenger Winston Churchill and 5,000 German prisoners of war. Thanks for sharing Chriss.

Great to see this great and fine old lady again, Chriss. Brings back memories to me also, having been on board this ship years ago when we lived at Southampton, England.

My Dad was in the RN and worked on Embarkation at the docks there for awhile prior to our moving to Canada, and our next door neighbour worked on the Queen Mary as chief confectioner, so we got passes to board the ships. This nice neighbour made a beautiful birthday cake for me one year, while on the Queen Mary, all decorated with small marzipan (almond paste) fruit, --what a treat that was! Have never forgotten that kindness.

From where we lived, we could hear the horns of both the Queen Mary and the sister ship, Queen Elizabeth as they entered and left the port. People would say "there's the Lizzie", or "there's the Mary" as the horns were heard. Nice memories from childhood days.

I have a soft spot for this 'old lady', as my Dad used to do repairs on her many years ago. Nice angle and perspective in this shot Chriss.

Great close-up of the Queen Mary. Is that the one that is said to be very haunted? It reminds me of our travel to and from Europe on one of the last cruises of the S.S. United States in the late 1960's.
