Same thing happened in Key Largo.

"George", a White Heron, had a hook and tangle of monofilament in his throat. We finally had a liveaboard resident LASSO him, got the bird lady to take care of him and he was released. No kidding - they really get PO'd!

great shot! would love to see a great egret, but think they aren't around this region. we get lots of Great Blue Herons tho, but so far have not got a good shot of one.
