This huge beast was sunning himself along the canal in front of the Midway Campground where we stayed while in the Big Cypress National Preserve in southern Florida. He measured about 14 feet long. When I walked over to the canal I kept looking behind me to see what my escape routes looked like - ummm - there really weren't any - overweight Grannies don't move too fast!!!
