Commercial London

A view of the commercial district of London. The strange shaped tower on the right is known here as "the gherkin" from its resemblance to a pickled cucumber. (I think this is called a "dill pickle" in the states, but I may be wrong!)

Thanks Beverly and Mike. I think your Fabergé analogy is spot on Mike. It really does remind one of an elongated Fabergé egg!

gosh don't London just look like a massive piece of glass ware love to be a window cleaner there lol the glass building Steve has another name st Marys axe also it reminds me of the Russian jeweler Fabergé with its colours and shape this was taken 3 months after opening Steve

The building is visible from a long distance from Central London: from the north for instance, it can be seen on the M11 motorway some 20 miles away.

Excellent shot, but it sure reminds me of why I live in a small town. That one building that looks like a torpedo is quite interesting.

Thanks for your complimentary comments, Don and Vicki.

Vicki, I think it's obvious that my wife has a wicked sense of humour: she married me, after all!! :)

We have gherkins here too, Steve. This is fantastic - that's one odd bit of architecture!

By the way - I had problems with my connection when I tried to comment on your wedding pic. It's a wonderful portrait of both of you. Your wife looks like she has a wicked sense of humour! Congrats to you both and have a wonderful life together - Vicki

Thanks for all your great comments, and I'll try and answer the questions you posed between you!

Golda, my vantage point was a helicopter!

Mary, the camera was an Olympus point-and-shoot with a 3x zoom, which was later stolen on the Paris underground!! The only editing I've done is to adjust the black point and increase the contrast a bit. The colours are as they were captured, but I think the helicopter windows had a blue tint to them. In any case, the distance and the haze added some blue, I think. Hope that helps to meet your curiosity!

Fantastic shot of a busy city. Doesn't look like there is any room to move around in. You took the photo in 2004. What camera and lens were you using and are the colors in the photo original or did you change them in your editing program? Sorry for so many questions Steve but I was just curious.
