How to Photograph Lightning Bolts in Nature

Friday, April 25th, 2008

Lightning is one of my favorite subjects to photograph in nature. It’s both challenging and rewarding to capture a detailed bolt without overexposing the image.
For those that would like to try to photograph lightning, first make sure you are in a safe place. The safest place is outside of the storm itself, […]

Solutions to backing up your photographs

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

Computers and hard drives crash from time to time. Viruses destroy files, and poorly written software sometimes has bugs that cause files to be erased or modified. Accidents happen that end up deleting or writing over the top of other files. A drink spilled in the right place could cause a short […]

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

It seems odd that writing a good description of your pictures would get more people to view them, but it’s true. Think of a keyword or keyword phrase that you would type into a search box to see a picture just like yours.  Naming your picture “yellow lily” instead of […]

Mist and Fog for the Nature Photographer

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

For the nature photographer, the environment is the canvas from which the image is created and the weather plays a big part of this. Nature images taken in the middle of mist and fog add a lot of drama, mystery, and interest to a photograph.
For some examples on TLF, please visit the links below:

Karen Moen’s Nature Photography

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

One of the nature photographers on The Lens Flare that has inspired me over the years is Karen Moen. Many of her images are full of color and drama such as the butterflies in her insect gallery and the sunsets in her cloudscape gallery. Probably my favorite among her pictures are her landscape photographs.
